During the 2021 season, many of the temporary structures that were intended for MLB at Field of Dreams were moved to Sahlen Field in Buffalo, New York, to allow that Triple-A ballpark to accommodate the Toronto Blue Jays. įollowing postponement of the originally scheduled game, the field remained fallow during the 2020 season.

Windows were included in the design of the right field wall to show the cornfields beyond the ballpark and to provide views of the movie set.
The design of the ballpark pays homage to the White Sox' home from 1910 to 1990, Comiskey Park, including the shape of the outfield and the bullpens beyond the center field fence. The new field is in the property of the Ameskamp family, who used to own the left and center field of the 1988 Field of Dreams (the rest was owned by the Lansing family) before selling it to the Lansing family in 2007. The field constructed for the movie, which has been operated as a tourist destination since 1989, could not be brought to MLB game standards without permanently altering major features of the property and destroying its movie authenticity, so it was decided to build a separate playing facility at a distance of approximately 500 ft (150 m) in the cornfields. The game is hosted in Dyersville, Iowa, near the filming location of the titular 1989 baseball movie. Schur is also an exec producer on Netflix’s Master of None and animated series Q-force and is developing Primo, a comedy with Shea Serrano for Amazon’s IMDb TV platform. The game, which featured a special appearance by Costner to kick-start the event, will be staged again next year. The game, which Tim Anderson won with a dramatic walkoff homer, ranked as MLB’s highest-rated in-season matchup in years. The Field of Dreams series announcement comes a week after Major League Baseball built a stadium at the iconic filming site of the movie and hosted the first big-league game in Iowa last week between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees. “ Field of Dreams is an iconic Universal film title from venerable producers Lawrence and Charles Gordon, that we could only have entrusted to Mike Schur,” said Universal TV president Erin Underhill. “His talent, his love for baseball and his reverence for its themes make him the perfect choice to revisit this beloved film that evokes nostalgia and visceral emotion in so many of its fans.” Peacock is the streaming home for the film, which in addition to Costner, featured a cast that included Amy Madigan, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta (as Shoeless Joe) and Burt Lancaster. The film was nominated for three Oscars, including best picture, adapted screenplay and score. Kinsella’s 1982 novel about Shoeless Joe Jackson - a member of the infamous “Black Sox” team of the Chicago White Sox who threw the 1919 World Series in exchange for money from a gambling syndicate. The movie - produced by Universal Pictures - is based on W.P.
